Editorial policy

Accuracy comes before speed. We attribute information, check dates and context, and distinguish confirmed facts from announcements and interpretations.

People and institutions facing material allegations should be given an opportunity to respond. A lack of response does not substantiate an allegation.

We use artificial intelligence to help draft and translate texts. Mircea Adrian is the responsible editor. Our publication standard requires checking claims, sources, quotations and consistency between headlines and articles; an AI response is not a source. Illustrations are not presented as photographs of the events being reported.
